It was the day of the big conference in Bali, and the Indian desk chief, Shanti, was ready to take on the world. She had her notes, her laptop, and her best professional attire. She was prepared to show everyone what a strong and capable woman she was.
However, things didn't exactly go as planned. As soon as she entered the conference room, she noticed that everyone was dressed in casual beachwear, whereas she was in a formal suit. She felt a little out of place but decided to ignore it and focus on her work.
As the conference began, Shanti realized that she was the only one who was not able to understand the local language, Bahasa. She tried to use her translation app, but it didn't work well. So, she decided to ask the conference attendees to speak in English, which was the official language of the conference.
To her surprise, everyone looked at her as if she had asked for the impossible. They explained that most of the attendees were from neighboring countries and English wasn't their first language. They told her that they had specifically asked for someone who could speak Bahasa, and she was the only one available.
Shanti was shocked and felt like she had let everyone down. But she decided to not let it bring her down and tried her best to communicate with the attendees. She would often mix up her words and unintentionally make jokes that were lost in translation. But her enthusiasm and energy kept the attendees engaged and made them laugh.
At lunch break, Shanti was excited to try some of the local delicacies. She saw a beautiful spread of food and was eager to dig in. She picked up a piece of what she thought was fried chicken and took a big bite, only to realize it was a chili pepper. Her mouth was on fire, and she was trying to suppress her coughing while tears were streaming down her face.
The other attendees looked at her with amusement and offered her some water to calm down her burning mouth. Shanti felt embarrassed, but she couldn't help but laugh at the situation.
Later that evening, there was a cultural performance planned for the attendees. Shanti was thrilled to see the Balinese dancers perform, and she had her camera ready. However, she accidentally pressed the video recording button instead of the photo one and ended up recording the entire performance in portrait mode.
When she saw the video, she was dismayed and wondered how she would explain it to her colleagues back home. But then she realized how hilarious it was and decided to share it with her friends and family, who laughed uncontrollably.
Despite all the mishaps, Shanti was still determined to do her job well. She made sure the attendees had all the information they needed and helped them navigate the conference with ease. In the end, she realized that even though things didn't go exactly as planned, she had made some great memories and had a lot of fun.
The conference was a success, and Shanti's enthusiasm and energy made her a hit among the attendees. They all remembered her as the funny and quirky desk chief from India.
