Laughter is said to be the best medicine, and that couldn't be truer for the patients at St. Mary's Hospital. They're not just fighting for their health, but they're also fighting off boredom and loneliness. That's why a group of patients have banded together to form a comedy troupe.
There's Charlie, a retired electrician who loves telling puns; Sarah, a former school teacher who is known for her witty one-liners; and then there's Jackson, a mischievous 10-year-old who can make anyone laugh with his silly antics. Together, they call themselves the "Funny Bones."
Every Wednesday night, the Funny Bones put on a comedy show in the hospital's common room. They invite anyone who wants to come to forget their worries and just enjoy a good laugh. The show has become quite popular with both patients and hospital staff alike.
One evening, a new patient named Tim is wheeled into the common room. He's feeling down after just receiving some bad news from his doctor. He's not sure if he's up for a comedy show, but he decides to give it a try. The Funny Bones start their routine, and Tim is surprised to find himself laughing along with everyone else.
As the show goes on, Tim feels himself relaxing for the first time in weeks. He forgets about his worries and just enjoys the moment. After the show, he approaches the Funny Bones to thank them. "You guys really lifted my spirits," he tells them. "I forgot about everything and just laughed."
The Funny Bones are pleased to hear this. "That's what we're here for," Charlie says. "We're not just telling jokes. We're helping people heal."
The next week, Tim is feeling much better. He even decides to join the Funny Bones. He's not the only one who's been inspired by their comedy troupe. Other patients start to get involved, too. There's Mary, a retired nurse who helps write jokes; Tom, a former musician who plays the guitar during the shows; and even some of the hospital staff start to participate.
Before they know it, the Funny Bones have become a big part of life at St. Mary's Hospital. They put on shows for other wards, and even get invited to perform at a local comedy club. The patients have become close friends, and they all credit the Funny Bones for bringing them together.
As Tim reflects on his experience, he realizes that laughter really is the best medicine. "When I first came here, I was scared and alone," he says. "But the Funny Bones showed me that there's still joy and happiness to be found, even in the darkest of times."
And so, the laughter continues to heal all wounds at St. Mary's Hospital, thanks to the Funny Bones and their jokes.
